Yelina, you did athletics?? Wow! That's a bit unusual!

Yes I did athletics. I only did for two years because on the third year I broke a finger, and when I could start athletics again, I broke my ankle. It was a very bad year! After this, I stopped practising it and I must say I miss it a little. When I see World or European championships, I feel like taking the place of the athletes.

Ouch! That's too bad! I can sort of relate. I used to play in a marching band and when I see one (that's good) I get a bit nostalgic.

Because not too many people practice it. Besides you, I don't know anyone who's done it.

When I feel this, it's a bit strange because in a way I don't like this feeling, but on the other hand, I like it.
I think I like it because when I see athletes before a race, I go few years back and feel again the stress which invaded me. My teachers kept on telling me it was a good stress which allowed me to succeed (even though I knew they were right, I wished I didn't feel this bloody stress!)

I started to walk few months ago but before that time, I didn't like to do so.
How many kilometers did you walk a day?

Ahh. Here, it's quite common. Last year in my class, there were 3 students who practised athletics.

Have you done athletics? If so, what did you do? I, I mainly did sprints (100 meters and hurldle races) and throwing of hammer. I excelled at hammer! I was for the 2 years champion of my region and I even had the record of it! (unfortunately, I'm sure someone "stole" it to me! )
I also did long jump (and triple jump). I wasn't that good at long jump but better at triple jump. (That's besides jumping at it I broke my ankle).

If you and I were to watch a race together sometime, I'd remember to bring some alcohol to calm my nerves, sitting next to you and everything.

In the marching band? Well, we had marching gigs now and then, more often in the summer than in the winter, of course. A few hundred meters, a kilometer... it was different from time to time. But let me tell you, it took some effort to walk while carrying and playing one of these mothers...

Walking is good. I do it quite a bit.

Nope. The only sport I ever practiced was judo. One semester when I was like 9 years old.

That's awesome! I never thought of you as somebody who'd excell at throwing hammers around! Seriously, that's impressive! I totally sucked at that stuff in gym class... all I was ever good at was running.

The sprints, middle distance, hurdles, relays, high jump, and discus throw were the track & field events that I excelled in. Anything longer than 3200m I couldn't do. I didn't have the stamina for it and I'd end up doubling over and dry heaving.

Why would you have to calm your nerves? Would you stress like me? Or would I transmit you my stress? Alcohol isn't a healthy way to calm nerves! You'd better have a massage!

Ooops! I misunderstood what your "marching band" was! As 'to walk" in French is "marcher", I thought you were in a group that walks every weeks many kilometers. That's why I started to talk about walk. Anyway, forget what I said!

My parents thought it could have been good for me to practise judo but I categorically refused!

People often react like you.

I used to be rather good at PE but now, I fear I could hardly be as good as I was in my "youth"!
