To put your files online on the Internet, you need two things:

1/ Your own webspace

2/ Some free software to transfer your files to your webspace

Getting your own webspace

If you don't have a webspace, no problem, let's create one immediately at some free host. I suggest http://www.orgfree.com/
Otherwise, skip this step.

You are at the home page of http://www.orgfree.com ? Perfect.

1/ Click "FREE SUBDOMAIN HOSTING" (and not "FREE DOMAIN HOSTING" below, which is actually NOT free).

2/ In the textfield that is displayed, type in a short name that's easy to remember. Make sure it has no space nor letters such as é, â, ç. This will be the Internet address (URL) of your site. A drop-down menu demands to add either the suffix 6te.net or orgfree.net to it. I recommend the former which is shorter.

3/ If all is well, the domain name you entered is accepted. If it is already used, find another.

4/ You've created your domain name. A page is displayed with a form to fill. You must fill every field, including the textfield at the bottom where the numbers that flicker on its left must be typed. Make sure to check the checkbox saying that you accept the terms of use and to NOT check the one that offers the newsletter.

5/ Submit the form. You will soon receive an email confirming that your webspace has been created. But we won't wait. We can immediately go download the program you need to transfer your files to your newly created webspace!

Getting the file transfer program (ftp)

Easy as pie.

1/ Goto
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.Ne...ileZilla_2_2_14b_dbg.zip?download to download Filezilla which is freeware.

2/ Once the installer is downloaded, double-click it to launch it. Just follow the installation instructions.
Voilà! We can now proceed to the file transfer to your webspace!

Transfering your files to your webspace

1/ Launch Filezilla. Perhaps there is a shortcut you can double-click on the desk.
Otherwise, you'll find this program at Start - > All programs - > Filezilla.

2/ The program's window pops up. At the top find the textfield labelled 'address'.

3/ In this field, type 67.159.21.70 if your webspace is at orgfree (the host at which I offered you to create a webspace a few moments ago).
Otherwise, type the ftp address of your host which should typically be like ftp.yourhost.com

4/ In 'user', type the domain name which you created a few moments ago. It is like yourdomain.orgfree.com or yourdomain.6te.net.
However, if you use an account that isn't at orgfree, you'll normally have to enter your username only.

5/ Lastly, in the textfield 'password', enter the password which you created a few moments ago.

6/ Click the 'quick connection' button. Filezilla will connect to your webspace.

7/ Once the connexion is established, the directory of your account is displayed within the frame at the right-hand side of the program's window.

8/ On your desk, click your way to some image file that you would like to transfer for the purpose of the test.

9/ Make sure that the name of your file is short, contains no special characters and is easy to remember.

10/ With your mouse, drag it to Filezilla's window and drop it in the frame at the right-hand side. The transfer starts.

11/ Once the transfer is over, open your web browser and type your domain name in the url field (for example http://myaccount.6te.net ) followed by a slash ( / ) and the name of your image file (for example myimage.jpg).
The final result should look like http://myaccount.6te.net/myimage.jpg
Press Enter. Your image should appears in your browser.
Cheer, your file is online!

(With thanks to Yann) :)
