The'onse',why should it use ons-e?Can't I use 'ons'?

Hi Chariotengland, welcome to the forum!
"onse" is a bit archaic, although it is sometimes still used in modern Afrikaans (eg "onse aarde! our earth!, an exclamation of surprise or disgust/disapproval). You could use "ons" there, but then the song won't work out... (you'll miss a note, unless of course you stretch out "ons".)
Gebergtes is also somewhat archaic, but also still used occasionaly. It means mountain(s) (berg/berge). The intention in the song is to refer to the many mountains we have.
Remember that the song was written nearly a century ago.
