America is a superpower & so are the citizens

This quote is the reply to me when I complained that Brennus has deletd our german and dutch threads. I've copied/pasted this here because it's so incredible american arrogance!!! I would like to know what think the americans of such a comment? It's acceptable? For sure the author is member of the Anglosphere as the definition described on the thread of the same name on this forum!!!!

Quote:
America is a superpower and so are the citizens of the country. He can moderate any forums whatsover be it a porn forum or a language forum. If you can not beat them, join them. Your outcry will not budge the moderateor an iota from his position. It is finally upto you to stay on the forum oi leave it and seek to post somewhere else. He has better things to do in his life than to read your mindless complaints.

so, must you conclude, that the people support those with the same citizenship as them, not take into account *what* or *why* is something said /written?

For sure I don't want join them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Brennus and the author of this nationalist reply)
Porthos

Pauline you get way too worked up about these things Pauline. It's just an idiot on an internet forum. Who cares?
Pauline

So, I'm behave bit crazy about this, do you think? Sorry if it's the case.
André in Zuid-Afrika

What Porthos means is that you should just ignore people like that, Pauline. They're not worth getting upset about!
Fredrik

Yes, you can't argue with the nutcases on Antimoon. I just throw in a high-brow line of protest from time to time.

BTW I kind of feel a rush of testosterone the few times I have yelled (very educated, sophisticated) abuse at people on Antimoon. The regular nutcases who write that kind of nationalist garbage you posted here, Pauline, probably do it for the same reason. So please have some compassion with us testosterone-frustrated boys, Pauline!
Loic

The atmosphere at Antimoon could get highly charged at times. The last time I was there, I also joined in the fray by lobbing a few grenades over the enemy line.

The person who wrote this may be an American, but I doubt it, because it's very anti-American. At least, that's how I read it -- as sarcasm directed toward American chauvinism.
Loic

I agree with Deborah.

Unless the author of that statement is really stupid.
Deborah

And besides, this...

Quote:

doesn't seem to have been written by a native English speaker.
Uriel

Well, I don't know about ya'll, but I feel pretty superpowerful most of the time. Must be those red-white-and-blue kryptonite Wheaties I munch down!

Pauline, I hate to break this to you, but I hear all manner of things said about America and Americans all the time, and I'm so used to it that I neither notice it nor bother to agree or refute anything about us anymore. It's not worth my time or my interest. I'm not responsible for apologizing for other people's remarks, and I have to question people who would really take them so seriously as to get worked up over such trifles.
Pauline

Sorry, Uriel: I didn't mean asking for an apology, I was surprised it (their message) was replied nationalistic. Anyway, what others wrote tell that probably it wasn't written by an american.

After a talk with my lawyer I've learned that this wasn't worth it to take serious and for sure not to create a thread. so, sorry for make this thread!

(My lawyer is my daddy )
Uriel

I hope he's giving you the family discount!
Fredrik

Why are you so shocked by nationalistic garbage, Pauline, when you live in a country with such constant petty fighting between Walloons and Flemings?
Pauline

Well, I don't know if between Walloons and Flemings you can call petty fighting: in Flanders there's extremist right-wing politic and 30% flemish voted for Vlaams Belang, who are haters of walloons and all immigrants (excepting white, christian etc..) This party was before named Vlaams Blok but because of racism they was banned, so the same people have continued with the new name. A flemish minister told just some months ago, that francophones i.e. wallons havn't the intellect for learn dutch - this was big scandal in the newspapers, parliament etc and naturally, fuel for the hatred.

Yes, I live in a country with this, but I don't take part. I've made very big efforts for learn flemish, and the university where i want to go for study medicine is flemish one, Leuven.

But, this is a country what was formed after it split out of The Netherlands, and was constructed at least united with one religion: Catholic. Of course now, 176 years after, the religion isn't so important, and it's very noticeable the linguistic divide and the cultural divide latin/germanic. Economics also are of influence because flanders is much more wealthier, they are right-wing and wallonie is socialist. Everything combine for making this arguments and fighting.

Enough of the answer to this comment Now, why am I shocked? Because it's an international forum, with visitors who come from many countries. The author of the message implicate that moderation is and must be for suiting the american supremacy, superpower. If, this would be an american politic website, you can anticipate such attitude and blatant promotion of american values, but for a language forum what isn't american, it's a surprise. But now I don't care at all, and I don't anymore visit. For me, I must have some other more important priorities.

Pauline

The quote is almost certainly somebody having a sarcastic dig at both America and moderators for having too much power and not using it wisely
Porthos

Pauline, I'm afraid you jump to conclusions far too quickly, when you don't even understand the subtle nuances and satirical expressions used by English speakers. A person, myself included, may make a joke or use sarcasm, and you immediately take offense because you assume it was meant to be literal. You get all worked up and offended for no reason, and in response, you start throwing insults at fellow community members, when they never did anything to injure you in the first place.

I'm not trying to put you down for your comprehension of English. I understand that you are not a native speaker, and that you are not completely fluent as of now, and I commend you on your efforts in developing fluency in English. I am just advising you as an online friend to hesitate in jumping to conclusions while on this forum, as you have a tendency to misinterpret the meaning behind some users' posts.

You're telling me off again? I do *not* immediatly take offense when someone make a joke or use sarcasm. Mostly I find jokes very funny. Sometimes I don't notice it's a joke and I take it seriously I know that and I've written it that sometimes it's a bit difficult knowing but if someone will explain me then I will listen them. Sarcasm i don't like, don't understand and don't notice it.

I absolutly didn't throwing insults at fellow community members. It's allowed haveing an opinion differnet that your one so probably you misinterpret the meaning behind my posts.

No. I'm not "telling you off". If you understood what I said in the above post, you would have realized that I was merely making a friendly suggestion, for your benefit, so that you could avoid violent confrontations with other users in the future.

You often misunderstand what someone is saying, and you respond with fits of hysteria, and write in a screaming fashion by means of multiple exclamation marks and very bold and aggressive language, only to find out later that what they said was a joke or satirical in nature.

Again, I'm just trying to help you avoid problems. I'm not attacking you. Perhaps prior to jumping to conclusions and throwing insults in retaliation, such as when you call Americans imperialist, and that you hate English and it is a stupid language, and that Anglophones are stupid because they refuse to learn other languages, etc... you should perhaps request a clarification from the user in more plain English/literal terms.

And you have a tendency to judge others merely on what you perceive their intents to be — namely the use of French in writing, which was deemed by you an arrogant attitude. So I suggest you two stop the argument now. Again, this is not Antimoon.

My opinion is that the US is imperialist. This don't depend of what say the other people, so it's not thrwoing insults in retaliation.

I didn't write that angophones are stupid, or that this would be because they refuse to learn other languages. Mostly, they don't be able speaking another language, and can you deny it? The consequence is that they can't imagine the difficulty for other people to understand and speak english, as they've not the experience to do this in a foreign language.

Pauline : est-ce qu'on peut arrêter ici cette controverse ? Si toi & Porthos souhaitez approfondir vos différents, pourquoi ne pas le faire via la messagerie ? Merci.

In this case, greg, Porthos happens to be entirely correct.

I daresay he is. However, misinterpretation isn't always Pauline's exclusivity.

No, indeed.
