Awww, thank you, Irrintzi! So far, the rain that has been threatening to fall (in my part of New Jersey, at least) has held off, and the weather has been breezy and in the low seventies (about 21, 22 C ).
This Fourth is a little weird, though, because it's in the middle of the week. Oh, well...we make do. Some people had their barbecues and parties last weekend, some are doing them this coming weekend (like I am...going on a roadtrip to Virginia Beach next Friday afternoon and coming back on Monday), and a very lucky few are just taking this entire week off from work.

In South-France and Southern-Europe, it's the heat wave, there are already fires destroying forests...

I had to work the 4th of July. Yes I know, I'm a slave.
But I would like to take this opportunity to thank the bloody Frogs on this forum for their country's key role in our liberation from Britain.
Merci beaucoup les Francais, et bonne fortune a vous toute!

There was no announcement for Canada Day (1 July). Is this some form of discrimination? Or a conspiracy to oppress the Canadian people?

Non, simplement de l'ignorance.
I didn't knew that Canada has a special national day.
This 4th of July is the American independence commemoration.
The 14th of July is the French Storming of the Bastille a symbol of French democracy.
Which symbols for Canada?

It's typically Canadian: it was chosen by bureaucrats as the day when the Province of Canada (now Ontario and Quebec) would be joined by Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in the Dominion of Canada. They called it a dominion because they thought calling it a kingdom would anger the US. This is our equivalent of independence day, but our foreign affairs were still controlled by the UK until 1931. And we didn't get the power to amend our own constitution til 1982. And our head of state is the still the Queen, so you could argue that we're not quite independent yet.

Well, up until you showed up, Josh, we had no Canadians here! Welcome, by the way -- nice of you to join us.
The city of Las Cruces puts on a music and fireworks show every year (for free, no less!) and one year I got to see the Guess Who in concert (more like guess what -- they're actually still alive!), and the lead singer announced that he had had a busy holiday season indeed, playing a Canadian venue on Canada Day (the 1st) and us on the 4th. Struck me as a lot of traveling time, since we're on the opposite border....

Well, essentially, you're our little suburb.
