British BigBrother row: Are you as unsurprised as I am?
In the Uk there is a big racism row going on, because some contestants in the British BigbBrother called an Indian housemate some racially insulting stuff. More about the row here:

Everybody is acting like this is a big surprise and a big crisis, but I'm not the least surprised. Isn't this what you expect from locking up a gang of publicity-horny idiots?
When BigBrother was launched I was hoping for all kinds of nasty stuff: Fights, rapes, sexually transmitted diseases, perhaps even murder, so that people would see what a stupid idea it was and BigBrother could fulfill its purpose, as a lawless arena for public enterntainment, like the Roman Collosseum
Instead we just got episodes of endless, boring bitching. And now, when at last something exciting happens, people act so surprised and worried!?

Lol, I don't watch it, but everyone seems to be obsessed about it at the moment. I don't know what was said, so I have no opinion on whether or not it was 'racist' — which is a much overused word, in my opinion.
Pauline
I think several things about this.I don't watch tv but I've read about it.
basically, my conclusions :
It was possibly bullying, not racsim. Both people said some little bit racsit things, but minimally. It was an argument because they're not compatible people. It's bullying because 3 peple argued against one person.
In this world with incredibly much prejudice, hate, unjust situations it is absolutly ridiculous that an argument between this people is so internationally discussed.
How about the people who suffer racism like they are murdered, attacked, disrespected, live in poverty, ? where's the international media attention then ? not interested because it's not famous people, film star etc..
why not think the people for themself ? always peple are very stupid. The people on the tv programme chosed going to this programme with the knwledeg they will be in a house with others possibly incompatible and always filmed.Probably they will receive very much money as well, but of course they want *fame* because they're egoistc.

I think it was an unwise choice by the Indian actress to appear on Big Brother. She has unnecessarily dragged her name -as well as that of the programme- into mud. Ominously for the Chancellor, his visit to India this week has been marred by this incident as Indian newspaper seem more interested in reporting about the aftermath of this incident than the inaugural trip by Mr Brown.
I was wondering: where do the boundaries between privacy and public intrusion lie in such a reality programme? Are hidden cameras installed in the bedrooms as well? Is every word and action of the contestant recorded for posterity?
Sometimes, I feel that a racist jibe made to provoke might not necessarily carry covert racist connotations. Yes, I agree that it is below the belt to use race as an instrument of insult, but some people believe that the ends justify the means. If racist remarks are able to mentally break down your adversary, why not? It doesn't matter if the hurler of those remarks subscribe to the ideology.

Yup. I dunno how much you know about Big Brother, but there are cameras everywhere, even in the bathroom. The program is often broadcast live over the whole country. (with a small delay, just in case something completely unacceptable is said or done and it needs to be *bleeped* out) There is NO privacy in Big Brother.

Well, that delay is the boring part, I think! I think the program should be as disgusting as possible, a real horror show! I'd love to see those idiots attacked by their disgusting housemates! What if they discovered they had locked themselves up with a cannibal!? That would have been really exciting and not the worthless crap it is now. I can't imagine why someone would watch that endless petty bitching, it's just like the negative sides of real life. Throw in a cannibal, I say!

Hear, hear!

What I found ironic is that the girl who was the least intelligible to me (Danielle) was the one who said that Shilpa "should fuck off home -- she can't even speak English." Lovely girl.
*I caught a few clips of this ridiculous show on You Tube.
