Dutch Text Messaging????When I (along with most American teenagers) text message, we often abbreviate words, and change words like "that" to "dat". I've noticed that the result looks almost like Dutch. It's rather funny actually. This could explain why Dutch-English cognates are spelled the way they are in Dutch. Maybe it underwent more of a simplification in Dutch.

Or maybe it's because 'dat' is actually pronounced that way in Dutch, whilst English retains the voiced 'th' sound.

Well, I know that. But, my txt msgs still look like Dutch sometimes.

Well, I often deliberately make my sms's look Dutch.
Most of my friends know Norwegian and English and some half-forgotten German, so I like to give them the occasional linguistical puzzle in homemade Dutch.
