Let's welcome Shouga

Here is where we all say a big hello to Shouga, one of our newer members. She is my friend from Southwest England. She really wants to join us properly, but is a bit nervous because we all know each-other and she only knows me — so let's welcome her!

Welcome Shouga! Come and introduce yourself some more!
Shouga

Hey, nice to meet you all.
I'm not sure what to say about myself. I teach myself languages in my free time but I'm not good at any of them. I'm mainly interested in East Asian languages. I learn French at school, and at the moment I'm teaching myself Japanese and German.

Hi Shouga!!

Don't worry about not knowing us yet, none of us knew anyone here when we first joined. And we all love meeting new people!
David

Welcome Shouga!

Don't be afraid to join in our discussion, we don't bite!
Uriel

All of us were new here once ourselves. We love new members! We need that fresh mea -- I mean, fresh voice every now and then to keep the place lively.

And it goes without saying that any friend of Benjamin's ....
Deborah

Welcome Shouga! How do you and Benjamin know each other?
greg in noord-frankrijk

Salut Shouga et sois la bienvenue parmi nous !
Loic

Hello Shouga! How is your progress in Japanese?
Shouga

Merci, Greg. Thank you all for replying.
We met via a Sylvanian Family website when I was 10 or 11. I'm not sure on the exact date (I think Benjamin knows it) but we've known each other for a very long time.
I'm not very good at Japanese - I know some Kanji, and I'm currently relearning Hiragana and Katakana.
Joanne

Hi Shouga! Don't be nervous, everyone's cool here. Welcome to Langcafé, and have fun
Porthos

Hey new person! Be yourself on here is what I say. If you think you are weird, you are bound to find someone even weirder. We have people from all walks of life, and a huge gay community. So people here know what it's like to be different. Only one person here will make fun of you. The rest of us are great, open-minded people.
fab

o ha yo go za ima su shouga ! Welcome !
Porthos

That's an interesting spelling you chose for Japanese there Fab.

I would have written something like: "Ohiogozymasu", with the last "u" silent.
Pauline

Hallo Shouga

If you want practise your german, you can visit the german thread. There we have converstaions about different things, or just write something it isn't important what is the content or the language level.

Here's the link for you :

http://langcafe2.myfreeforum.org/forum17.php

I hope that you will visit there.
Shouga

Konbanwa to fab et everyone else. And, this forum is 'a huge gay community'? :
Thank you for the link Pauline, although my German is nowhere near that standard yet. It's nice to meet you all.

Hello, Shouga.

Fret not if you're dissatisfied with some of your "post-prime language" skills: many - dare I say most - of us aren't content with ours, but are strongly encouraged to try them out anyway, out of leisure and/or earnest. (No, that compound conjunction was indeed intentional, especially in my case. )

Shouga

Ich komme aus Devon!
Und danke!

Ohayou gozaimasu is correct; Porthos' version is impossible to write in Hiragana.

Yes, that's it. It's been a while since I read James Clavell, lol.
Uriel

I lived in Japan for three years. Never read any James Clavell.

Welcome to the forum! And, yes, as with many a language forum we are fortunate to be graced with a disproportionately large gay contingent!

It was interesting to read your announcement on The Gay Thread after reading this.

I wondered at your calling this a "disproportionately large gay contingent" because it seemed perfectly normal to me. But, then, I live in San Francisco.
