In a few months I may have the possibility to move working there. That's definitivly one of my favourite European capitals since I re-visited last summer.

Do you like Madrid ?

When I first started learning Spanish and Spanish culture, Madrid never really appealed to me.

However, when my Spanish teacher suggested to me that I do an exchange program and study in Barcelona, Salamanca, or Madrid, I started to realize how beautiful Madrid is.

It has so much history in its culture, it's architecture, it's buildings, etc.

And I speak the language, far from fluent, but I speak the language well enough to get around. And that's always a plus.

:)

Madrid: definitely some place I'm going to visit in the future.

Je ne connais pas Madrid. Je suis allé au Pays basque, en Catalogne, dans les Asturies, en Andalousie et aux Baléares. Mais pas Madrid, malheureusement. Y a un TGV Madrid-Barcelone ?

I would definitely visit Madrid again if I had the opportunity. I was there in 1970 and had only a so-so time, but that was because Spain and Madrid were very different then. Spain was very conservative -- I got harassed for wearing pants rather than a skirt -- and I suppose the average height must have been pretty short, because I was gawked at everywhere I went, even in Madrid. Had it not been for that, I might have liked it. I don't know how much one can really tell about a place from movies, but I get a good feeling about Madrid from the movies I've seen. I generally like large, cosmopolitan cities, so I expect I'd like Madrid now.

Now Madrid is the third largest metropolis of the EU. It is a big and cosmopolitan city, at same time very Spanish and very international. At same time an historical, royal, very "European" city and a modern one.
