New 7 Wonders

Do you know this project?
Bernard Weber had the idea to restore 7 new world wonders, because 7 antic monuments are almost all in ruin...
The New7Wonders of the World, as announced in random order at the Official Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07, are: The Great Wall of China, Petra, Chichén Itzá , the Statue of Christ Redeemer, the Colosseum, Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal. More than 100 million votes were cast worldwide. The New 7 Wonders are all equal – there is no rank among the list.
But deceits were revealed, in particular for Petra monument of Jordania where 14 millions of Jordanians voted while they are only 6 millions....
Furthermore, this classification is inequitable for the other monuments which were not chosen...
And since when, the Brasilian Statue of Christ Redeemer is better than the Beijing forbidden city, Versailles, la Alhambra or the Kremlin?

And I can't understand why Taj Mahal was chosen instead of, let's say, Mont Saint-Michel in France.

Taj Mahal is a very beautiful monument as Machu Pichu

Or Cordoba's mosque:

Versailles

Forbidden City:

Sanaa

St Peter Basilic

Even, UNESCO don't have recognized the Weber's project.

It's all relative: for me Taj Mahal is not beautiful at all.

And don't be bothered about all this contest. It was organized for fun and there are few international institutions that would recognize the results.

Ah Cordoue !

My "coup de coeur", and what I visited this summer:

The gorges of the Verdon and its canyons (real colors , that is a UNESCO non-classed park):

Roman aqueduc du Gard

Nîmes, les Arènes:

Notre Dame de la Garde (Marseille):

Calanques (around Marseille, unclassed):

Cévènnes forest

Mont Perdu (Pyrénées):

Cirque de Gavarnie (unclassed):

Dune du Pyla (Landes, Aquitaine, unclassed)

So many beautiful places to see! Sanaa looks marvelous!

Here's one of my votes -- Petra:

Yes, it's certainly a beautiful place too.
Arabic cities and monuments are so beautiful and originals, I hope to visit one day Marocco places as Fès:

A great labyrinth!

Or Marrakech and its markets...

Hello everybody.

I'm very happy about Machu Picchu having been chosen as one of the new seven wonders.

The Taj Mahal is very beautiful, and the story behind it makes it all the more wonderful and cool.

On the other hand, I don't really think the Christ in Brazil was a good choice. In my opinion, Acropolis in Athens should've been chosen instead.

It was good fun.

Kind regards

Yes, Machu Picchu is one symbol of Pre-Colombian cultures.

the Taj Mahal is so big, all the monument's walls are ornate with Arabic proverbs and scriptures. Near Taj, there is the red Agra fort built by the same Maharajah:

Yes, the Christ of Brazil is a strange choice... Acropolis is a good monument but it's in a bad condition of conservation (and menaced by the Athens's pollution...)
