South AfricaJust watched an extremely disturbing (sensasionalist and unbalanced) report on South Africa on Sky News. Hey guys, it's not that bad here. We're not constantly trying to kill each other, we do not live in constant fear. We have problems, yes, but most of us are working to solve them, And we'll get there.

What's Sky News?

A cable channel that is actually more well known here for its football and cricket coverage.

British cable channel (British version of CNN, if you like). They're supposed to be a highly credible news source, and have won several international prizes for their reporting. Which makes their highly unbalanced report on SA so much more surprising, and makes me doubt their credibility...

Do unfair racial quotas still exist in South African sport? Are talent scouts still keeping away the likes of Kevin Pietersen from the national squad because of their ethnicity? I think the biggest problem plaguing the country at present, apart from crime and Aids, has to be the phenomenon of positive discrimination.

Oh yes. It's becoming increasingly contorversial here. Don't have time now, but will write something about this during this week.

South Africa is a beautiful, fascinating country that should not be marred with negative ideas just because of its turbulent political history. And I'd love to visit the country one day. It's on my must-visit list.
I'd like to share something.
My boyfriend is Dutch and his mother's best friend is also Dutch but she used to live in South Africa (she also speaks Afrikaans). My boyfriend's mother and her friend used to live next door to each other in the Netherlands long time ago until one day when her friend moved away to South Africa.
They never saw each other again. They both kept in touch though but because of difficult circumstances they never got the chance to meet for such a long time. My boyfriend's mother decided to move back to England after divorcing her husband in the Netherlands, taking her two sons (my boyfriend and his brother) and stayed there ever since. She and her friend both lost touch.
Then problems started in South Africa and the friend feared for her life so she fled back to the Netherlands. When she learned that my boyfriend's mother had moved to England, she decided to go to England.
After more than 40 years apart, they were both reunited.
