Just been watching this movie on TV wife disappears, husband suspected, I was sure he was innocent, if only because his best friend believed in his innocence. Then... last two minutes of the move... wham, bam!! he turns out to be guilty... broke his friend's heart... and mine...   OK, so I got carried away...

I hate those kind of movies, esp. the kind where you have a defense attorney defending someone who everyone is convinced is guilty, but the lawyer is so determined to prove his client's innocence, which he does successfully, only to have the client go "haha, fooled you!" at the end.

Yep, hate those too. Now I'm watching The Sopranos, at least I know everybody's guilty.

Of course, in that movie, it didn't help me that the husband was played by Dean Cain...

I can be so shallow sometimes...

Yep!! Channel hopped, came across it about halfway in the movie. Come to think of it, it was actually very predictable... :?

Speaking of sad endings...A message in a bottle...

That movie was a true story?

Why yes. It was big news here. Scott was convicted of killing his pregnant wife Laci (and their unborn child), who had been missing for a year or so. Their bodies washed up on the banks of a river (I think). He's currently on death row.

Yeh, just read about it on Wikipedia...jeez....

Oh, good god. We all knew how that movie ended a long time ago, without ever watching it! He was suspect #1 from the week after she disappeared! And you couldn't NOT hear about that case if you were in America -- not with Laci's stunning billion-watt smile beaming out at you from every tabloid. She was a very pretty girl -- I'll bet plenty of guys were flabbergasted that anyone would want to kill her just to get out of fatherhood.

Never made it into our media. Heard about it the first time tonight. Thought it was just another made-for-TV-movie...

Good grief. Do you guys make movies about every crime committed in your country? :? If we did that, we'd have the most productive movie industry in the world....

Uh-huh. Or we write books about them first... then we adapt them to film. That way we increase our PROFIT$! I'm actually writing a hardboiler about the day I lifted a CoverGirl compact from Macy's when I was 14.

Hey, I want to buy into this! i'm sure I can get Charlize Theron to play you. I can negotiate with her in Afrikaans, I'll just offer her a year's supply of biltong...

Charlize to play me?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!! That sure is stretching things. But if we're going to be imaginative with our casting, I'd rather get Eva Mendes. That way, people will think of Elaine as a hot Latin chick with big breastesses and dangerous curves.

Uriel

We already thought of you that way, Elaine. In fact, after your gritty pageturner is released, you might want to sue Eva for identity theft, intellectual property right infringement, and possibly, a few of her more expensive shoes.

Oh STOP! ...so what else do you like about me?
Elaine

I think I'll just hijack this thread and turn it into a "Movie I'd Like to See" thread, but y'all can continue posting about stupid movies.

First up on my list is "For Your Consideration." Wonderful cast, the premise sounds high-larious ("Home for Purim"! ). But it seems to have gotten mixed reviews.

Deborah

Yeah, that one's high on my list, too. But I wonder how long Christopher guest can keep turning out great mockumentaries.
Uriel

Well, somebody's gotta keep Catherine O'Hara gainfully employed! I don't know why we don't see her in more stuff -- she's great!

I think it should be mandatory that everyone watch Holly Hunter's "Home for the Holidays" while working off all that tryptophan on the couch -- the scene where she's trapped in the car with her parents in airport traffic and her eyes meet those of the stranger in the car next to her and they both have the same which-leg-do-I-have-to-chew-off-to-get-out-of-here expression is to die for!

Plus Robert Downey, Jr as her gay brother, Steve Gutenberg as her uptight, conservative brother-in-law (yes! the one from Police Academy), David Strathairn doing his best wounded puppy-dog eyes, Dylan McDermott as her brother's is-he-or-ain't-he? male friend, the incomparable Anne Bancroft as her mother, Claire Danes... it's good stuff, Maynard.

I agree. She's a great comedienne, of course, but also a fine actress generally. There's a moment in A Mighty Wind when she (as Mickey) and Mitch are rehearsing their signature song and they get to the place where they traditionally had always kissed each other. They pause and look at each other, judging whether to go for it, and then don't. Catherine O'Hara's face for the next few seconds is a study in excellent acting.
Akoni

I hate the movie "Titus".... Romans on motorcycles and driving cars
Uriel

What about Romeo + Juliet -- Rennaissance Italians in wifebeaters and baggy pants waving guns?

Even Harry Potter makes use of anachronism as a plot device.
Joanne

I never took a shine to Leonardo DiCaprio. My Mom and aunt had to practically drag me to the theater to see Titanic (the stupidest movie ever, IMHO). Twenty minutes into the ordeal, I had reverted back to my six-year-old self and whined and moaned that I wanted to go to the arcade in the theater lobby...
Uriel

He doesn't bother me. And I HAD to see that ship sink -- I love good special effects!

Plus he was really good in What's Eatiung Gilbert Grape. And I'm kind of interested in seeing Blood Diamond.

The only time I really liked L DiC was in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
