Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend. Anybody gonna watch? Chicago or Indianpolis?

A sports reporter named Keith McCord seems to feel that "it's the one day of the year where people all over the world plan their day around the TV."

Do any of you non-North Americans even care?
Deborah

Do all of us North Americans even care?
Loic

I would take an interest in it if Nipplegate resurfaces.

Wait, this is the event in which the boo-boo happened, isn't it?

PS: All sports journalists are prone to excessive hyperbole. I see it's not unique in american football.
Akoni

I've never seen a game of American Football
Loic

I've seen highlights of it on ESPN. Of course, if you're like me who grew up weaned on a diet of Hollywood films, you'd have seen many references to the game on the silver screen.

One of my favourite sporting films is Rudy - it's about a man's determination to play american football for Notre Dame despite not meeting the criterion as far as his stature is concerned. What I like about american football is the raw power and athletic skill which the players exhibit on the pitch. It's explosive and exciting.

Of course, the cheerleaders are always a helpful presence.

Umm, heck yes!

We have them in basketball too. It's such a delight...

To answer your question Julian, I will be watching the game. I'm sort of indifferent to the outcome, as I'm not a fan of either team.

I'm a Raider fan! Don't be hatin....
Shouga

There's no hype about the Superbowl in England; I've only heard it mentioned once over the past week.

Nope, no mention of it in the SA media. There will probably be a three minute long edited version of some of the highlights on a sports programme on one of the satellite channels during the next week or two. Unless the finals of the Chinese bowls championships turn out to be really exciting, in which case the Superbowl won't make it.
Porthos

Yeah Julian, and if I move to San Fran, I hope I get season tickets to the games, as all my other sports teams are in L.A.
