The Geographically ChallengedA co-worker of mine just returned from a cruise to the Mexican Riviera via Norwegian cruises. So as he was relating his experiences in Ixtapa, our dear sweet student worker from Kentucky asked in all seriousness, "Is that in Norwegia?"
Well, she did walk in in the middle of his story...

Hm, Norwegia, it's nowhere near here anyway.

I saw that clip yesterday - she made it to a Swedish newspaper because of her ignorance - and I thought about posting it, but didn't. It was almost unbelievable how little she knew, but she took the whole thing pretty well, I think.

I'd love to know what questions she answered correctly to get up to $10,000.

Maybe the first question was:
Host: Alright, Kellie, are you ready for the first question?
Kellie: Uh-huh!
Host: Are you sure?
Kellie: Yeah, I'm sure, shoot!
Host: OK... what's your name?

I don't know how that game is played, but judging by the clips I've seen, it seems the 5th grade kids answered correctly on her behalf. That's something to be proud of!

She's a past "American Idol" contestant and current country music singer. I've never heard her sing though, so I can't really advise her whether she should or shouldn't quit her day job.

"I love Africa in general -- South Africa and West Africa, they are both great countries." -- Paris Hilton, as reported in yesterday's papers.
Just add those wise words to these other gems uttered by geographically-challenged celebrities:
"I get to go overseas places, like Canada." -- Britney Spears
"I've never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don't like eating fish. And I know that's very popular out there in Africa." -- Britney Spears
"So, where's the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?" -- Christina Aguilera
"I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix." -- Dan Quayle

That could be a valid question, if you're aware that there's a Spoleto Festival held in Charleston, South Carolina.

I'm speechless.

I remember my geography teacher showing us that video when I was at school last year... I suspect it might be staged though.
