What is your favourite animal? What is your favourite animal?
I like many, especially parrots and tortoises. I like squirrels also and dolphins.

My favorites are dogs and horses. I'm not so much into the exotic animals as much as I am into animals that are useful and capable of providing companionship and or loyalty.

I like all the standard house pet animals, but cats top the list.
As for animals that I'm not likely to have as pets, I like elephants, giant tortoises and warthogs. I also like all baby animals.

I love cats - the domestic ones, and the big scary ones.
I also like the great apes, but part of me feels like they don't really "belong" in this category, because they're so similar to us.

Generally, I like all animals from traditional European mythology. I especially fancy beavers, they are so ingenious.
I don't like birds very much, in fact I have light ornithophobia, that is fear of birds. This condition is quite widespread in society, in fact PR companies often avoid using birds in commercials because they know a lot of people have an irrational fear of birds.

Giant tortoises are the nicest tortoises I think as well. I didn't know what's a warthog so I looked on the internet: it's a very funny animal!! He's a mixture of horse and pig

I know a girl who's fear of birds, butterflys and all creatures who fly (I don't knwo about planes, helicopters probably not). You must remember if you will give her a birthday card that it must *not* have a picture of butterflys!!! I didnt'know that it's quite widespread. I think that I was a bird in my previous life because I exactly know how it's like to fly, probably pheonix or other similar one for exemple eagle. In my next life I would like to be a bird.

That reminds me of one lazy Maths class, when we were (for one reason or another) discussing platypuses, and my Ukrainian friend revealed to me that she didn't know what a platypus was. Now, if you've ever tried explaining what a platypus is to someone, then you would realise quite how amusing this conversation became, as we tried to describe it as a 'egg-laying dog X otter hybrid with a beak' - no wonder she didn't believe that this creature even existed!

So you believe in reincarnation, Pauline? It's interesting, I haven't heard of someone who is afraid of butterflies before. Although I know many people with interesting phobias; my friend is scared of balloons, and my sister is afraid of green straws!

green straws, so not other colours ones? I don't eat green sweets.
Yes, I believe in reincarnation. I think that souls are eternal and of dead people the souls are in the nature, wind for exemple and that you can notice them. If you've the special power (not exactly power but there's not other word) then you can have reincarnation as other animal or person. i can remember flying, it seem like memory because I knwo how it's like to look down and you fly. I'm now human girl, so of course it's not possible flying so I conclude it was when I was a bird, probably pheonix. This is because pheonix can die and then be reincarnated in other live. So I think that some souls are pheonix ones with this special power but it's not always possible knowing who has this or not, few I think. Also, I love birds and can't stand when they're in a stupid cage.

I have allergies to most mamals (except humans and cetacés!) - I don't like really dogs, I tend to prefer cats over them.
But actually Dophins are among my favorites, I have one in my bathroom!

Oh...I thought we were talking about animals other than those that we are.
Elaine, I love the bunny wabbit with the kitty face. It took me a few seconds to realize there was something amiss about it -- my first thought was that it was just a vewy pwetty wabbit.

My favorite animal is the rhino.
You've got to love an animal that's so big and majestic and just ready to kick your ass at a moment's notice. I love the prehistoric-looking horns and the elaborate armor. And the sheer size and power. They're great to draw!
As for varieties, I think the Indian rhinoceros has better armor, but the African ones have better horns.
I tend to like animals that are more on the unusual side -- Cape hunting dogs with their fabulous markings, hyenas with their unusual body-shape (I find the striped hyena and the aardwolf prettier than the spotted), prosimians of all types (lemurs and tarsiers and lorises), fruit bats, and pretty much all hoofed animals -- especially the ones with wild-looking horns or antlers.
I'm also fond of skunks, wolverines, and other weaselly types.
In real life, I'm very much a dog person -- I have 5 of my own. I find cats less interesting, although I've had plenty of those as well. (It's interesting that you prefer cats to dogs, fab, given your allergies -- people are far more likely to be allergic to cats than to dogs.)
I have never heard of anyone being afraid of birds or other flying creatures -- except maybe for bats, or for Hitchcock enthusiasts. Weird. I've had pet finches and parakeets -- all I can say is that they weren't great pets, were horribly messy, and never liked me at all. (Guess I don't have the touch!)
I like rodents as pets, but unfortunately they generate a stink all out of proportion to their diminuative size! I had a gerbil as a child, and mice as an adult. (I had a bunch that were golden, with red eyes -- very cool!) They say rats are the most intelligent, affectionate, and personable of all the rodents (and despite their superficial resemblance to mice, they really aren't that closely related!). From what I've seen of friends who have pet rats, this seems true.

I think rhinos are very nice as well; I've read that they look ferocious but they're gentle. The baby animals in the photos in the message of Deborah are *very* sweet!! Especially the rhino and the giraffe.
Fab, you've a dolphin in your bathroom? What type?
1. soft toy?
2. picture?
3. shower curtain?
4. ornament?
5. other...?
Or, maybe it's a real-life dolphin!!! Your bathroom is like a swimming pool!!!

Hey Pauline, is that a "crabbit"?
One of my favourite animals are the lynxes because they appear so mystical and majestic, but I also adore the domestic cats in general.
Actually, I find all kinds of animals fascianting. I'm one of those few who likes to watch animal documentations on tv now and then, lol

Last night I watched a couple of videos about animals, one of which was about antelopes. For some reason, they got through the part about springboks without mentioning pronking!
This link is to a video of a springbok pronking (the springbok in the second picture, above, is pronking).

Pretty much, yes. A large herd moving across the veld (field) seems almost like a wave moving. It seems as if they hardly touch the ground.

That sounds astounding.

Deborah, I agree, those caracals look beautiful as well!
Here is another picture of a caracal; it appears as if it's able to receive the radio with its ears
I found a picture of a baby caracal
I think it's sad that there isn't really paid attention to those very rarely species like this one, lol

The caracal actually is a lynx -- just a desert one. Hence the ear tufts. And apparently they do make good pets.
Here's a little cutie from New Mexico and anther parts of the West, the ringtail cat:
Also called the miner's cat, because they are often tame enough to take up residence in remote cabins and keep them clear of rodents and bugs. Comes from their actual relationship not to cats, but to their cousin the raccoon -- also a curious and often friendly little panhandler, which people sometimes keep as pets.
It just don't get much cuter than a baby raccoon!

I actually used to think the same because they are occasionally called "Persian/African Lynxes" (or "Wüstenluchs" in German). Although they have a great resemblance to lynxes, they are of a different genus.

Icke,
The creature in the sea on the picture - what is he? He look very funny!!
The lynx and caracal are wonderful. Have they exceptional hearing, or are those ears decorational? For sure it appears as if it's able to receive the radio with its ears.
The raccoon's very sweet. Koalas are nice as well, like teddybears
