I'm not the first person at LangCafe2, who recorded something from scratch :) , but I feel obliged ;) to tell you about the site with many audio materials (not only). Probably most of you know this site, but for some it may come in handy.

In general, the site is devoted to Low Germanic languages, however when clicking first link, we get onto the page on which we can find many audios in different toungs.
On the site we can also join the subscription and after that we will get resources so that we study languages that we had chosen before.
I hope, the site will be useful. :roll:

Or do you mean your English accent? It sounded British to me (London), I would've assumed you're British.

Just noticed...
This London accent thing is interesting...Answering Walkers' question, I've been to London many times but I've spent much more time in Northern England. Funnily enough, I've been told several times that I had a southern accent. I've spent some time here and there in England but never settled down for a long time in one particular place, which resulted in a hotchpotch accent. It might not be noticeable when I read out as I that time I try harder to adhere to the rules of RP (which my accent isn't in fact). The northern influence might be noticeable when I speak. I don't know as I can't really listen to my speech objectively. But I always hear that something is fishy about my accent...that may be my Hungarian intonation patterns creeping into...
As far as Hungarian is concerned, it's an odd-one-out in Central/Eastern Europe, being a Finno-Ugric language.

| Liz, I think your English accent is great! It sounds like a kind of Estuary-influenced RP. Apart from a small number of instances, I think you really sounded like a native in that recording. |

I too would have thought you were British. For instance, your glottal stop in "stru' around the office..." and your 'r's that inbetween vowels sometimes sounded almost like a 'w' indicated an English accent. |

I've seen some interviews with Jonathan Ross from the '80s, and he's actually reduced his r-to-w pronunciation since then! |

oh yeah, absolutely sounded very much like an english accent to me, though people from England probably would have noticed the subtle differences a lot easier. |

Hi Liz, I've just found this site from Antimoon and the discussions seem to be a lot better (though slower). I've never heard you speak before and I have to say that I'm even more impressed than by your written English. I like to think that I could pass for a native Francophone in writing, but I certainly couldn't in speech; you on the other hand, can. I also think it sounds London; certainly not northern with the way you pronounce 'o' (GOAT, etc.).

Not being from the UK, I would have thought you had some British accent that was very slightly different from ones I was familiar with. And possibly the only reason I think that is that, being aware you're Hungarian, I was being terribly aware of anything that sounded "suspicious" to me. For all I know, the rare word that I thought sounded out of place, or like a different British accent from the one you're speaking in, generally, may not be out of place at all. In any case, I think your accent is very impressive. |
