Elaine, I heard on the news that the Grapevine was closed due to snow, and that people actually had to spend the night in their cars, stuck on the highway.
It was viciously cold here for December and the first part of January -- teens and twenties (well below freezing, for you metric types),and without central heating, I was sleeping in layers of sweatpants and sweatshirts. And wishing that dry cleaner would hurry UP with my comforter! But lately it's been a little warmer, especially when the sun's out. But let the wind blow, and it's like a knife!
We've had snow dusting our mountains, but little real precipitation at all, apart from a freak rain the other night. There is snow at my dad's house in Albuquerque, 3 hours north of me, though, and I have heard that there has been good snowfall in various mountain ranges across the state, which bodes well for a water supply in the coming year.
You know, Deborah, I have had a rosemary bush for several years now, and it's happy and spreading everywhere, but I have seen ONE flower on it the whole time I've owned it! What the hell? _________________ An apple a day....

I know! Mine didn't bloom at all in its first year-and-a-half, and now it's covered with blossoms. Where I used to live, I had a rosemary bush that would bloom only in the spring, yet there are rosemaries (is that the correct plural??) in my current neighborhood that seem to bloom all year long.

If a flower doesn't bloom doesn't it mean that its well-being is affected?
Poor snakes... They will freeze to death under the snow cover. And you have such an abundance of them in the Southern states
Oh, gosh, no; they hibernate. They survive the winters just fine underground.
It's surprising how many things are hiding in the desert. Toads, for example. They lie dormant all year, and then just appear for a few weeks when it rains. And they're often enormous -- obviously not this year's crop. Huge swarms of grasshoppers that only appear once in a blue moon. And there are flowers that only appear every few years, it seems like, when the rains are just right. Maybe my rosemary is just biding its time..... _________________ An apple a day....

Yesterday (and the day before) the temperature hovered around an unseasonably warm 80°F (26.6°C), but today it's a chilly, foggy 59°F (15°C). Funny the difference a day can make.
Last Friday I was in a T-shirt and capris. Last night it snowed! Big, wet flakes that stuck all over my car and to the yard (there was still some there this morning).
The power was also out when I got home from work late last night, and stayed out until the wee hours of the morning. They were working on the transformer behind my house in the snow, but we were all right in candlelight until I decided to blow them out and snuggle up in bed. Now it's pretty sunny, and the snow is all gone. Won't have to water this weekend! _________________ An apple a day....
Sunny and warm, but windy as hell! I took my big red dog out for a walk today, and when I got back home, my hair looked like a tumbleweed. It may have even had tumbleweed in it. But it's just gorgeous today -- I'm in a t-shirt and shorts. _________________ An apple a day....
Wow! Today we had a beautiful day of spring and I actually got to enjoy half an hour of it when I walked home from work.
What about "Emma"? Did you have it? When it left Poland on Sunday they said it was moving towards Sweden.
Yes, it payed us a visit but it wasn't so bad, just really windy.

I hope this weather will last for the next few days because I'm going to Uppsala soon.
Work-related trip, yeah? I haven't been there in a couple of years now, though. Should you have nothing to do in the evening when you're there, I recommend that you go to Flogsta and experience flogstavrålet, which is when students give vent to their anxiety by screaming. 10 p.m. every night!
I thought of going to Uppsala when I was in Stockholm, but the dratty weather put me off the idea. _________________ Hillary Clinton is an acquired taste which I have clearly yet to acquire.

It seems I'm gonna have one free evening, so I will.
