I thought of going to Uppsala when I was in Stockholm, but the dratty weather put me off the idea.
You thought of going to Uppsala when you were in Stockholm, but you didn't think of visiting Poland when you were in Europe. And Sweden is so close! Shame on you!
I went and bought plants for my garden over the weekend. Each spring, it is customary for me to go and choose a few good specimens to die horribly in the heat come summer. This year's victims will include sweet william, strawberries, pansies, dusty miller, onion chives, tomatoes, roses, and some midsummer's night sage. Well, the roses and sage will probably do just fine. _________________ An apple a day....

And I do the same, only to lose them to summer's fog and fierce, cold winds. I think I'll plant poppies -- they're the state flower, so they should do well.
I have managed to keep some poinsettias alive, including one from LAST Christmas, and I found that they actually liked being outside on the porch, and weren't even that thirsty. I'm just afraid to put them out until I know all threat of a frost is gone, because it's still getting down into the thirties at night, I think. I saw my breath Monday morning. _________________ An apple a day....

It's been unseasonably warm the past couple of days, but it's a lovely kind of warm.
And my gardenias look like they're about to bloom! I'm so excited about that b/c they're a very temperamental plant. The last one I tried to raise only gave me one friggin' bloom before drying up due to the dry, smoky, Santa Ana wind conditions. This time around, I've been misting them regularly and feeding them azalea/rhododendron food.
I have a lot of plants that die back down to the ground in the winter and then pop up again in the spring -- like my smaller Salvias and my mealy-cup sage. My Peruvian nightshade even takes until late summer to put out any leaves -- now there's a lazy plant! I have also had annuals who gamely put in a second year, like a few of my dianthus, and trees like my mimosas, which spring back into exuberant growth no matter how many times you try to chop them down, or, as my pit bull did, munch off half their bark. (Seriously. I had to wrap chicken wire around it!) _________________ An apple a day....
So I scurry back home at 7pm to plant some roses in the last light of day, and I have the bag of steer manure by me so that I can amend the soil as I go, and I look down and there's the dog, blissfully eating it.....
Wind advisory in effect for tomorrow -- winds are supposed to hit 50-60 mph. God bless March! But it's supposed to be about 78 degrees, so other than that, it should be a nice day! _________________ An apple a day....
This just in: my stingy rosemary has produced more than one flower now -- we're up to a whole branch! Out of a very large bush, but okay....
Today was absolutely gorgeous, and I was out working itn he yard in t-shirt and shorts. I even have a sunburn!
Wish me luck on my bareroot roses -- I forgot to soak them first.
First signs of winter here... bit early. Had rain, probably the last of our summer rain, but it was rather cool while it rained, and even now. _________________ Toe ek jonk was, het ek al die antwoorde geken. Nou verstaan ek nie eens die vrae nie.

The weather in these parts has been absolutely lovely, although temperatures are expected to rise by the end of the week. I thought I'd just share this boring bit of information.
As a matter of fact it does! My husband thinks they must be smoking something since the weather here is so predictable and it is supposed to be suddenly so warm. I for one am looking forward to it.

Great news! My gardenias have bloomed and there are dozens more buds ready to burst open! I just love their sweet fragrance. Only problem is, I noticed hundreds of aphids have attached themselves to the buds. I'm going to have to try to get rid of those pesky critters this weekend.
I think winter has started here now. After a few cool days, it was fairly warm for the past week. But today suddenly turned cold, and we had a lot of rain this afternoon and tonight, so it should at least be cold for the next few days. We might have another warm spell after that, but from then it will be winter. _________________ Toe ek jonk was, het ek al die antwoorde geken. Nou verstaan ek nie eens die vrae nie.
The weather here has been absolutely beautiful. I love Spring!
13 degrees Celcius? You call that spring? Here, that would be considered a nice winter day. OK, if I read the graphics right, those are night time temps, but still. Those are cold nights. 26 by day seems great, though, while 21 is still somewhat wintery! _________________ Toe ek jonk was, het ek al die antwoorde geken. Nou verstaan ek nie eens die vrae nie.
