Sorry, the pictures didn't show up on my pc before. I am going to guess it's somewhere in the Iberian Peninsula, but I wouldn't know what city. Maybe somewhere in Central or northern Spain? _________________ Operation Northwoods - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

Yes I can
The square buildings with "cut" corners on the 1st and 3rd pictures are very characteristic... |

At the moment I spend half my time in Belgium, half my time in Spain (for those who used to know me as a Bolognese: I left Italy one month ago)
I should settle in Barcelona within a few weeks (I actually lived there for a few months back in 2000 and am originally from French Catalonia, even though I was born in your "arrondissement")
By the way, nice choice of pictures, very typical but not the usual monuments or clichés |

Do you guys really think of Barcelona as a Spanish city? I find it difficult to think of it as a "Spanish" city, being that a lot of the people don't even speak Castillian. I think of it more as a Catalan city within Spain, sort of the way I think of Quebec as being a French state within Canada, but not really Canada, in that it is not Anglophone. _________________ Operation Northwoods - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

Yes, I see Barcelona as a 'Spanish' city because it is in Spain. Anyway, I spoke Castillian when I was there and didn't have any difficulty.
And yes, I see Québec as Canadian. I see no reason whatsoever why 'Canada' should imply 'English language'. |

Johannesburg it is! The first two pictures were taken in the suburb of Hillbrow, and the last one is in Johannesburg city centre (perhaps Braamfontein or Nieu-Doornfontein).

Of course that Barcelona is in Spain !
You canno't say that the people don't speack castillan, actually 100% of the Barcelona people are Castillian speaker, and maybe only 60% of these are Catalan speaker. Actually the city is complety bilingual.
Not to forget that it host a lot of immigrants from latin-America who, of course speak Castillian.
It is a quite different situation than with Quebec (even if Quebec is also clearly Canadian). And Spain is a country that is unified by the use of the Castillian language and the presence of regional co-official languages in the "spanish nations" (galicia, Pais Vasco, Catalunia, etc) |

Well done for guessing correctly, Fab! Actually, I'm amazed that you not only realised straight away that it was in South Africa, but also that it was Johannesburg... especially considering that those three pictures could quite easily have been taken in Birmingham (UK), LOL. Have you been there? |

You know what, I would have guessed somewhere in England, but now, after taking a closer look at the picture, I realized that everyone was black! So, South Africa was a reasonable guess, but I wouldn't know which city exactly, other than to guess the major ones, which is probably what Fab did. _________________ Operation Northwoods - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

Benjamin,
as we say in French "j'ai l'oeuil", I like to observe thinkg, especially when it concern urban things (professional deformation).
Actually I would say That at first it could looked like it was in a lot of different anglophone countries. But seeing the cars, I thought it wasn't in the USA, and all people we see are black. I know that downtown Johanesbourg is nowadays mainly black.
Actually I've been to south Africa with my parents when younger, but not in Jo-Burg and quite long time ago. |

Benjamin,
At first sight I would think of the United Kingdom, although I didn't noticed any sign that could give me a clue.
I think it could be also maybe in Germany, or maybe Denmark or Scandinavia, or in any former Birtish colony.
And this one ?

Fab — are your pictures of Verona in Italy?
Edit: I said that before waiting for all the pictures to load... I now see bullfighting... so maybe it's not Verona. |
