Nobody's guessing...

Maybe a bit too hard. It was Dakar, Senegal. Or more presicely the ile de Gorée, the place where the slaves were grouped to be brought to the Americas.

On the island there is a little village which reminds a lot some places in mediterranean (such as Ile de Lerins in Cannes above)

That's a good one. The place actually looked familiar to me (I saw it in a documentary about the slave trade
a couple of years ago), but Africa didn't occur to me.
