Hehe, do you say "get down of a car" or "get down from a car"?

Does anyone (besides the Anglophones) know the old joke, "How do you get down from an elephant?"

I think you'd have most of us scratching our heads if pressed to find an Anglo-Saxon equivalent for arroyo or mesa,

Is table not a well known word in New Mexico?

I believe she's referring to the tableland type of mesa. And probably lots of people in this country are more familiar with "arroyo" than "wash".

Right -- I meant this:

Black Mesa, in Arizona

not this:

For example, the part of town I live in is called the East Mesa; there is also a West Mesa on the other side of town.

And I didn;t even know arroyos and washes were the same thing (shows what I know!). I did know that they are called wadis in Arabic; "dry streambed" was as close as I could get to it in English.

Walker: It's "get down from the car" or just "get down".

I didn't, until I read about it just now.
