The King of Pop is dead. Rest in Peace, Michael.  But really now... too much too much too much.

Oh, and rest in peace, Farrah. You will be missed.

I was rather sad to hear of Farrah's death. I loved Charlie's Angels, and really admired here in later roles, in which she proved she could actually act.

She fought a long, hard, painful battle against cancer. And she did it bravely. Sadly, her death was overshadowed by the death of an apparently drug-addled pop star who is being glorified to mythic status by his fans and the media. Sorry if this offends some, but, my goodness! Ppl are flying in from all over the world to pay tribute to MJ!

I know.  Poor Farrah -- she picked the wrong day to die!  (And as some wit said, the governor of SC should have waited just one more day to spill the beans on his Argentina trip -- then nobody would have noticed, and he'd still have a career!)

I never watched Charlie's Angels, so I really only know Farrah Fawcett from um, Cannonball Run, but anyone who has the guts to go public with her last months of rectal cancer so that fellow sufferers won't have to endure snickers and humiliation on top of agony and death gets my attention ... and respect.  That was far braver than most people can even imagine being.

MJ, on the other hand, hadn't had a hit in decades, and had descended into bizarre self-indulgence that was impossible to respect, and overshadowed all the good he had done in his youth.  i was surprised by his death, but nothing more.  And I never understood all the adulation even in his heyday -- much less now.

Well, the spectacle that is the Michael Jackson Memorial happens today at Staples Center in downtown LA, and sources say that this big event will cost the cash-strapped City of Angels anywhere between $2 million to $4 million to cover the cost of police security, fire safety, clean-up, etc.  Nice.  I hope AEG (the megacorporation staging this event) and/or the Jackson family cuts the city a big check to pay for all of this, but so far they haven't offered.

I read one comment, obviously from a die-hard MJ fan, that said that for what Michael brought to this world, he is worth every dime.  Are these people fucking nuts??????  Did Michael find a cure for cancer? Did he negotiate peace in the Middle East?  Did he risk his life fighting in Afghanistan?  Wake up, people!!  There's a whole world out there beyond what you read on TMZ!
