Believe it or not, the other day I perused that other language site, and came upon a thread written in Frisian. It got me curious to hear what Frisian sounded like since they say it's the closest language to English... and well, okay...

So I listened to these 2 audio samples and found it interesting how with sample #2, I was able to follow along with the text, but with sample #1, I kept losing my place. #1 seemed to skip over consonants while #2 enunciated them clearly. Perhaps this is due to dialectical differences.

Frysk #1 <-- This guy's from Delft(!) Is that even in Frisian-speaking territory?

Frysk #2 <-- This guy's from Heerenveen

Quote:
It winterkeninkje

It winterkeninkje hie syn nêst yn it weinhús.

Nei in tiidsje, komt heit winterkeninkje wer thús.

„Wat is der hjir bard?“ seit er. „Wa hat jimme wat deard, berntjes? Jimme trilje fan ’e skrik.“

„Och heit,“ sizze hja, „Der kaam sa'n grutte bûzeman lâns. Hy like sa fûl en freeslik.

„No,“ sizze hja, „hy is dêrhinne gien.“

„Wachtsje,“ seit de heit, „Ik kom him nei. Sit mar net yn noed, bern. Ik sil him wol krije.“ Dêrop fleach er efter him oan.

Doe ’t hy de hoeke om kaam, rûn dêr de liuw.

Mar it winterkeninkje is net beskromme.

In Heereveen they speak Frisian, in Delft however they speak Southern Hollandic dialects, which even lack the Frisian substratum of Northern Hollandic.

Yep! I don't know which terms I had searched at the time. I couldn't retrieve that page :(

But it allowed me to see the video

I like this sentence at the bottom of the page: Words are in "Fries". It took me three times to understand it wasn't to be read as the plural of fry  :D

Frederik,

Good God man! People are going to think you're a maricon if you keep posting that song from that site!
