What is your opinion on this? Given that I created a disaster last time, I'm worried there will be punch ups over this one as well. I'd be interested to hear your opinion on it if you think it is safe to comment....

I think these people had a quite silly reaction. One can do outside one's job what one wants. If the person does her job right, it's the most important. Her private life is not these people's business.

Silliness.  And ironic, too, since obviously some of these "complaining" parents must have had subscriptions to this magazine, to even know about it....

Reminds me of when I was in school, and several of my fellow starving art students would supplement their incomes by posing nude for drawing classes.  You'd be sitting at a desk next to one of them in one class, and then in the next, they'd be lounging in their birthday suits in the middle of the room by the space heater while everyone chalked out their likeness.  We even had one student model whose father was one of the professors in the art department.  I don't know if she ever modeled nude in one of his classes, but it was common for the drawings to end up posted in the hallways, so it's not like he never saw any of those!  And no one made any fuss about it.  I even had one class where the nude model brought her baby to work with her, and we drew both of them while the kid climbed all over her.  The teacher thought it was a great exercise for us.

I might be too conservative and you can call me prudish if you wish, but she should have taken precautions and I can't belive she thought she could get away with it (not that it's a crime, which is not, of course ). Although I agree with Didier that you can do whatever you want outside your job if you are doing your job well, I think that from the point you "broadcast" it you make it public and in this case, you give the opportunity to your students to see you naked, which is not a problem provided you are willing to bear the consequences. So, in my opinion, the principal's actions cannot be regarded as breach of the law. She has the right to dismiss anyone who she thinks acts against her principles (and against a lot of people's principles, I suppose), regardless of the fact whether I agree with her decision or not. It might have been an overreaction on their part, but the teacher has no legal ground to protest. So anyway, the point I was trying to make was merely that I can understand why people reacted that way and not that I despise the teacher in any way.

And Uriel, what you are writing about is quite a different kettle of fish.

Well, you should admit that once she decided to share her pictures/details about sex with the public it is not only her private business any more.

Liz, don't worry! I have never thought of being too conservative or prudish as something one should be ashamed of!
