Thanks. My link wasn't working because it made the period part of it. This is the page: http://media.putfile.com/Comma-Passage _________________ L'homme est comme Dieu l'a fait et un peu pire/ L'homme est le seul animal qui détruit pour le plaisir |

Welcome Josh! Unfortunately, I'm currently unable to listen to your recording because I don't have an audio device installed. Is it the same recording you posted on Antimoon a couple of months ago? As far as I can remember, it was crisp and clear and you have a pleasant voice. And, of course you didn't sound Chinese like Travis! You might have noticed as well that Antimooners have a peculiar, albeit well-documented tendency to mistake anyone for Chinese whose accent happens to be different from theirs. I particularly enjoyed the discussions about Travis' accent - they tried to convince him that he was Chinese or some kind of Asian, but at least a non-native speaker for sure! What's more, a long time ago, when he used to have heated debates with prescriptivists, some of them claimed that he was a non-native English speaker who pretended to be a native speaker, on account of his "poor" style of writing (=his sentences are too long). (Although this belongs to the Antimoon Rants thread and is clearly off-topic here, this is one of the threads where poor Travis is being castigated by ardent prescriptivist: http://www.antimoon.com/forum/t222-0.htm)
The poor guy has had rough luck over there! I'm still amazed that he is visiting that forum and bitterly disappointed that he prefers their company to ours.
Thanks for the compliments (Josh and Deborah)!
Anyway, Deborah, certain sounds were really out of place. _________________ Az alvástól megéhezem. Az evéstől elálmosodom. Az élet szép. |

There was one guy (a Guest of course) who insisted not only that Travis was actually Asian, but that he was North Korean, and that he was willing to bet his life on it. I asked him why North Korean and not South, and he said it was because of his "rigid attitude".

Yeah, that's typical of Guests.
PS: I like your quotation. Is it from a song? _________________ Az alvástól megéhezem. Az evéstől elálmosodom. Az élet szép. |

Hi Josh Lalonde, you have a very pleasant voice, but why are you speaking just above a whisper? |

I wondered that myself. Dorm room perhaps? _________________ Operation Northwoods - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

No, not a dorm room, but I was sitting in my bedroom recording this with my brother downstairs, and I don't want to sound like I was talking to myself...I should probably re-record it when no one's in the house.
Yes Liz, my signature is from a song. It's "Distraction Massive" by IAM. I discovered French rap about a year ago, and now I'm hooked. It's a good way to practice too.

Thanks for that trip down memory lane, Liz! It always amazed me that people claimed to have such a hard time understanding Travis's sentences. I never did.

I expect it's because they mostly discuss languages at (in? on?) antimoon. I don't think he was interested in the social club aspects of langcafe. |

I laughed out loud periodically when I was reading those comments. It's unbelievable that native English and American English teachers couldn't decipher what Travis wanted to say. I, as a non-native speaker, could understand his posts perfectly well.
Besides, I don't see the reason why they insisted that Travis was a non-native English speaker, someone from Eastern Europe, to be more specific. Although it's not always easy to tell whether the author of a post is a native or a non-native speaker, Travis is so *obviously* a native speaker. Yes, sometimes he is writing run-on sentences, but it doesn't mark him as a non-native speaker. Non-native speakers don't usually write like that, especially not Eastern Europeans! I'm Eastern European, so I know... _________________ Az alvástól megéhezem. Az evéstől elálmosodom. Az élet szép. |

to be honest as a French native speaker. I don't understand at all what they are talking about. It's no French this.
this is good rap and in clear French slang.

For the long time nothing has been happening in this topic. Thus, I decided to add some audiofile. I recorded a poem of Johann Wolfgang Goethe - Erlkoenig in german of course. Here is the link to rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/122013356/Erlkoenig.wav
I add the text here, so that you understand what I say ;) :
Erlkoenig
Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind;
"Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht?"
"Siehst, Vater, du den Erlkönig nicht?
Den Erlenkönig mit Kron und Schweif?"
"Mein Sohn, es ist ein Nebelstreif."
"Du liebes Kind, komm, geh mit mir!
Gar schöne Spiele spiel' ich mit dir;
Was Erlenkönig mir leise verspricht?"
"Sei ruhig, bleib ruhig, mein Kind;
In dürren Blättern säuselt der Wind."
"Willst, feiner Knabe, du mit mir gehn?
Meine Töchter sollen dich warten schön;
"Ich liebe dich, mich reizt deine schöne Gestalt;
Erreicht den Hof mit Müh' und Not;
In seinen Armen das Kind war tot. _________________ "- Med tid og tĺlmodighet, blir morbćrbladet silke.

Sadly, I can't listen to your recording right now, Losseh, I seem to have to download some more programmes first. I'll do that tomorrow. In the meantime, it's great to have you back! How you're doing, buddy? |

How I'm doing? I'm still whole, alive and even healthy! :P I'm glad that sometimes anything appears on this forum.. Simultaneously to my feeling of happiness I'm also sad because of contrary reason.. Why do you all write here anything so seldom?? ;) _________________ "- Med tid og tĺlmodighet, blir morbćrbladet silke.

I agree, but it seems we'e hit another quiet period... It will pick up again, just keep coming back!!! (You know, I've given up on this forum several times, and then suddenly, just as I'm ready to pack up and leave, it jumps back to life again...)
